After many years filled with uncertainty, chaos, and doubt, 2022 has certainly been a refreshing one. With most people now welcoming back family and loved ones into their homes, one thing that COVID taught us is how much we value our own space.
Through the last 12 months, we’ve seen many interior trends come to life including shades of green, curved lines, layers of textures, mixing vintage with new, but above all a turning page for our environmental impact. With this, predictions for 2023 are pushing for elements of convenience along with sustainability which encapsulate the design trends.
Let’s take a look at what these trends could look like.
Sustainability:
Eco-conscious properties are a growing trend. Throughout 2022 we saw an increase in the use of recycled materials throughout the home, such as unwanted textiles, wallpaper, lights and accessories that would otherwise be heading for landfill. Along with the refurbishment and use of older antique and vintage pieces. In 2023, we’re continuing on with this trend with the addition of more new-builds adopting eco-friendly technology. This includes solar panels, green roofs, greywater recycling systems and energy-efficient appliances, as essentials within the design.
Curves:
In the last 12 months we saw the introduction of curved design in our homes. This was expressed through furniture pieces such as sofas, armchairs and coffee tables, which have very quickly paved the way for perhaps more permanent structural elements. Predictions for 2023 seem to be leaning towards more curved walls, bold arches and softer edges. These can often assist in creating the illusion of making a room look more spacious, open and inviting.
Multi-purpose rooms:
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, we saw an immediate adjustment to the life of working from home. Through this, the introduction of dedicated office spaces in our homes was introduced. With businesses now enabling employees to continue working in this hybrid model, this has resulted in many individuals requiring multi-purpose rooms throughout their homes. With this said, predictions for 2023 are headed towards a huge increase in demand for retreat spaces within properties. These spaces encourage people to take a break from work right at home in rooms that have the ability to act as libraries, in-home gyms, or whatever they require them to be.
